Matthew Hindley acquired by the Iziko National Gallery in Cape Town
October 8, 2019
Matthew Hindley's work Speak Naturally and Continuously has been acquired by the Iziko National Gallery in Cape Town, which was erected at the end of March this year.
This work is an an eight meter LED display which translates the speech of the museum audience into a live stream of text that runs across the entrance to the gallery. The work is ever new, always in reaction to the environment, sometimes in unpredictable ways. The limitations of technology, key theme of the work, ensures that the translation is not one-to-one. Rather it’s a textual weave between truth and fiction, creating a dada-esque poetry generator.
