Johannesburg-based Magadlela (born in 1978) was the 2015 winner of the prestigious FNB Art Prize, and has been exhibited extensively both in Southern Africa and internationally.

Her works are made from stretched commonly-found cloths, such as pantyhose, sheeting and correctional service uniforms, across wooden frames. The subject matter within these abstract compositions moves between articulations of her personal experience of womanhood, maternity, and narratives from black South African history.
