Liberty Battson curates The Confession
July 13, 2017 - Everard Read JHB
10 July, 2017 marks the opening of The Confession; a group show curated by 2014 L’Atelier Art Competition winner and Everard Read represented artist, Liberty Battson.
The exhibition, which focuses on the idea of visually articulating “SA’s most-searched-for topics according to Google”, stands as Battson’s first curatorial undertaking. Battson, herself, has spent more than a year tracking the most-frequently searched Google topics in South Africa and translates her findings using 2k automotive paint onto canvas.
Along with such artists as Kevin Irungu, Peter Mammes and Luyanda Zindela, the personal interpretations of topics surrounding gender, class systems, human rights and xenophobia are accompanied by personal audio clips made by each participating artist.
The exhibition, which is on show at the Absa Gallery, Johannesburg, will conclude on 4 August 2017.
