Everard Read Group Welcomes Mary Sibande

It is with great excitement and humility that we welcome the internationally celebrated South African artist Mary Sibande to the Everard Read Group. We are proud to announce that Everard Read will now serve as Mary’s principal gallery representative. Having long admired the fearless imagination, technical brilliance, and expressive power of her practice, we are honoured to walk alongside her as she embarks on a bold and significant new chapter in her career. Together, we look forward to deepening the reach and resonance of her work across the continent and around the globe.

Mary’s presence has grown steadily on major international platforms. From representing South Africa at the 54th Venice Biennale to exhibiting at the British Museum, the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art, Musée d’Art Contemporain de Lyon, Zeitz MOCAA, and the Iziko South African National Gallery, her work continues to captivate audiences worldwide.

Her many accolades reflect the profound impact of her artistic journey. In 2013, she received the Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Visual Art. In 2017, she was honoured with the Award for Artistic Excellence by the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art. Most recently, in 2023, she was appointed a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture—one of the highest cultural distinctions awarded by the French Republic.

Mary joins Everard Read with a career defined by ambition, integrity, and global recognition. We are deeply proud to welcome her to the gallery and look forward to sharing the next phase of her extraordinary journey with you.
